Opening of Online Portal For Provisional Registration

The Sri Lanka Medical Council is pleased to announce the opening of the Online Portal for Provisional Registration for all persons eligible for the Provisional Registration.

The Provisional Registration application process will be conducted entirely through an online system in order to provide a more efficient, convenient, and streamlined service for medical graduates.

Eligibility Criteria and Requirements for Provisional Registration

A. Following persons are qualified to apply for the provisional registration with the Sri Lanka Medical Council under Section 29(2) of the Medical Ordinance.

  1. Persons holding a degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery of a university established under the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 or the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University; or
  2. Persons who have passed the examination necessary for obtaining a degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery of a university established under the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 or the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University but has not obtained that degree owing to a delay on the part of that university in conferring that degree on him; or
  3. Persons who have completed the Examination to Register to Practise Medicine (ERPM) of the Medical Council;

B. All persons qualified for the provisional registration as above are required make a self-declaration online confirming he/she is of good character as required by the Medical Ordinance.

C. Registration of all persons qualified for the provisional registration under above 1 and 2 will be made only after receiving their names and effective dates of qualification from the deans of the respective faculties of medicine. Their effective date of provisional registration will be the date of qualifying as confirmed by the respective Deans. Their effective date of PR will be the date of passing the final examination, as confirmed by the respective Deans.

D. The effective date of provisional registration for the persons qualified under above 3 will be the date of passing the ERPM.

Portal Opening Period

The online portal will be opened at 9.00 a.m. on Tuesday, 8th June 2026 and will remain open until 4.00 p.m. on Friday, 12th June 2026.

Applicants are strongly advised to submit their applications well in advance to avoid last-minute delays or system congestion.

Please note that, the applicants may not be able to open the account until the respective Deans update the official information of eligible applicants.

Fees for the Current Registration Process

Applicants are required to make the payment through the integrated online payment portal as part of the application process. Therefore, applicants are advised to have a valid local or international credit/debit card ready to complete the payment successfully.

The Applicable fee for the Provisional Registration is Rs. 7000/-

Documents Required for Upload

Applicants are required to upload clear scanned copies of the following documents:

  1. Colour scanned copy of the Birth Certificate (Both side)
  2. Scanned copy of the National Identity Card (Front Side)
  3. Scanned copy of the National Identity Card (Back Side)
  4. Colour photograph as per the Specifications given by the SLMC

  5. Colour scanned copy of the Degree Certificate
    • Local Graduates - If the Degree Certificate has not yet been issued, applicants may upload it once received
    • Foreign Graduates –
      1. Degree Certificate should be uploaded according to the instructions provided in the portal
      2. Please Upload both sides of the English Translation of your Degree Certificate
      3. Colour Scanned copy of your Degree approval letter
  6. Upload the signed signature sheet as s colour scanned JPG File

Important: Upload a colour scanned copy of the completed signature sheet with your signature clearly placed in the designated area. The document must be uploaded in JPG format only.

Therefore, all applicants are requested to save soft copies of the above documents in a single folder prior to filling the application.
