For a century, the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has remained steadfast in its mission to ensure the safety and well-being of every patient in the country. From its inception in 1925, the Council has developed and enforced comprehensive standards to regulate the medical profession, ensuring that only qualified, ethical, and competent practitioners are entrusted with the responsibility of patient care.

Only individuals with verified academic and professional qualifications are granted registration. The SLMC rigorously evaluates applications to ensure that practitioners meet the required standards before they are allowed to serve patients.

Through the Professional Conduct Inquiry (PCI) process, the SLMC investigates complaints made against registered practitioners. Disciplinary action is taken where necessary to uphold the highest ethical standards.
