Revised ERPM Guideline 2025

The Sri Lanka Medical Council hereby announces the launch of the Revised Examination for Registration to Practise Medicine (ERPM) Guideline 2025.

This revision has been developed following extensive feedback from Professional Colleges, Specialists, the Ministry of Health, Deans of Medical Faculties, senior academics and other key stakeholders. It is intended to ensure that the assessment of medical competencies remains robust, fair and aligned with current healthcare needs and international standards.

Key Change: Subject-Wise Assessment

Under the Revised ERPM Guideline 2025, competencies will be assessed on a subject-wise basis in both Part I and Part II of the examination, replacing the previous overall assessment approach.

This will enable a more detailed evaluation of candidates’ clinical knowledge, skills and competencies, while supporting patient safety and high standards of medical practice in Sri Lanka.

Transition Arrangements

The revised guideline includes transition arrangements for candidates who have sat, or are currently proceeding under, previous ERPM guidelines.

Candidates transferred to the Revised ERPM Guideline 2025 will retain credit for subjects and examination components already passed. Candidates under the previous format may also elect to migrate to the revised format in accordance with the transition provisions set out in the guideline.

Effective Date

The Revised ERPM Guideline 2025 will be effective from the first ERPM examination scheduled to be held in March/April 2027.
